Wondering how to get started? Here are a few tips:

1. Invite your players

Invite them with either their email address or their Obsidian Portal username.

2. Edit your home page

Make a few changes to the home page and give people an idea of what your campaign is about. That will let people know you’re serious and not just playing with the system.

3. Choose a theme

If you want to set a specific mood for your campaign, we have several backgrounds to choose from. Accentuate it by creating a top banner image.

4. Create some NPCs

Characters form the core of every campaign, so take a few minutes to list out the major NPCs in your campaign.

A quick tip: The “+” icon in the top right of every section is how to add a new item, whether it’s a new character or adventure log post, or anything else.

5. Write your first Adventure Log post

The adventure log is where you list the sessions and adventures your party has been on, but for now, we suggest doing a very light “story so far” post. Just give a brief overview of what the party has done up to this point. After each future session, create a new post detailing that night’s adventures.

One final tip: Don’t stress about making your Obsidian Portal campaign look perfect. Instead, just make it work for you and your group. If everyone is having fun, then you’re using Obsidian Portal exactly as it was designed, even if your adventure log isn’t always up to date or your characters don’t all have portrait pictures.

Scouting the Spider-Demon's Temple

The party engaged the services of Damoteles, a Tarsemine local and member of the Adventurer’s Guild, to help them scout the details of the Temple of Ottopede the Spider-Demon. Damoteles found an entrance to the old dwarven sub-strata and the party followed an aqueduct to a vault where the cultists held audience with “Ottopede.”

Takhis heard “Ottopede” speaking the language of devils, as opposed to the expected language of demons, and Brond conducted some quiet research at the Temple of Heironeous that confirmed “Ottopede” as a barbed devil.

Mabon crept into the vault to scope out the statue the party is charged with recovering and found that it bears the family crest of the Shamra, a noble family fallen on hard times but nonetheless still among the aristocracy. The PCs engaged a number of the Pale Dogs to find the route connecting the vault to the temple, which they did with aplomb.

The party sketched a plan to move the statue, but the devil and cultists still present an obstacle.

Scourging the Spider-Demon's Temple

After a reconnaissance foray into the depths of the temple itself, the party engaged the aid of a few freebooters rented from the Delver’s Guild to put down a righteous smite on “Ottopede” and its nefarious temple. The assault took a heavy toll, and both Takhis and Zartan found themselves on death’s door after a vicious entanglement with a pair of bearded devils the barbed devil enlisted to bolster its ranks.

The PCs emerged victorious, however, and collected their spoils: a six-foot, solid-gold statue of a noble of House Shamra. Amid the bodies of the fallen were a few suspected members of the Pale Dogs, which piqued Mabon’s curiosity. A greater challenge, however, was how to move the statue from the chamber beneath the streets.

Enter Zigs and Arlien, a pair of fellow Delvers separately hired by Orestes the gnome to recover the statue after the original party pleaded failure to retrieve it and subsequently ceased all communications with Orestes. The duo arrived just as the victorious party discussed plans to transport the statue, and with a quick conversation of each other’s intent, the newly expanded fellowship hatched a plan to put the gnome racketeer on the ropes….

The Forgotten Floor

The team of Mabon, Brond, Takis & [Evelyn’s Toon] returned to the ruins to explore that mysterious floor attached to the shaft.

Inside, they once again encountered those undead apes and a new dark dwarf people. This floor had 3 dwarven statues on pedestals in 3 rooms and seemed to be a sort of hotel lobby like establishment. One room contained a dry well.

Also, it appears a control apparatus for the machine the Balacazar’s seek is found on this floor. We were unable to discover how it’s used or its purpose, but reporting this find back should complete this assignment for us.

The team descended the deep well to find two curious people of a mysterious elven descent observing a mural painted upon the wall. During engaging conversation they mentioned another entrance to this place protected by fire. We asked them to leave and while they willing agreed, something offended Brond and a brawl was started. During the fight, the fighter, Bannon, called for him from the Dahag. It was a terrible spider looking creature that was a very challenging fight. We were able to defeat the group, killing the fighter and dahag, while taking the wizard prisoner.
